It begins with our thoughts…

What if we all really did the above things for ourselves each day?

I am not talking about doing this in a selfish or narcissistic way, but what if we truly lived our lives ‘being” who we were made to be?!!

If we did, I believe that it would allow us to truly feel more valued, forgiven, empowered, and accepting who we are…every part of us! 

In P31 Fitness, we talk about health from the inside-out.  We talk about being truthful with ourselves, and about the disciplines we need to have for our health.

Especially when we talk about the quality of discipline – I want to relate this to our thoughts about ourself and what we ALLOW our brain to think about ourselves!  We do have a choice in this – but wow – it can be hard!!

We have all been questioned, criticized, de-valued or hurt by others.  Picture yourself doing what you think is right – and BAM….you get criticized, or hurt, or made fun of or…..fill in the blank!

Been there?  It can cause a complete derailment from your day!!  A time of questioning, hurt, and doubt!

 

But how about this – have you ever questioned or done these things to yourself?  We all have done this to ourselves… I am sure!   Probably even today.

In this blog, I wanted us to look deeper into some of the things that happen to us each day as women, and to maybe get a new viewpoint of who we are in HIM so as we can proudly do and say the things above in this picture!!

When we are okay with who we are and what we are doing, we can have confidence in knowing what we are doing is the BEST we can do!  That doesn’t mean we are always right.  It does mean we are doing that we know how at that moment.  It means we are seeking ways to bring glory to God in what we do.  It means we are prayerfully acting in a way that would help and bless others.

 

HOWEVER….

We have to remember through life that people will always have opinions of us.  They will always question things we do or are trying to do, but you know what?  That is their opinion.  Our role is to figure out if their opinion is truth for our lives.  

If it IS truth or even partial truth, then we have an obligation to ourselves and to those around us to work on or “fix” those things that need to be changed in our lives!

However, if it is NOT truth for us personally, then we have to find a way to move forward in confidence with what we are doing.

Some things I have learned about all of this, is that perception and how we view ourselves is often radically different from what others view of us.  For instance, I may think I am coming across one way, and the person on the other end perceives it in a completely different manner!

This is what leads to misunderstandings, hurt feelings, irritation, bitterness, and more….on both sides!!

So, what does all of this have to do with the original quote pictured above, EVERYTHING!

What we think about ourselves and what we believe is the truth is also what we will portray on the outside.  What we KNOW about ourselves from what God has said, is what we need to believe and live.   It begins with the truth that God loves us and would never want us to think some of the things we let run through our minds uncontrolled…those crazy emotions!  So, we have a responsibility to NOT let this happen and have discipline in what we think!

It all begins with what we THINK about ourselves.

When we think right – we set ourselves up for success in this area.    The more we can work on our thoughts and remembering the TRUTH that God says about us, then the more we will portray positive emotions and feelings towards those around us as well.  The less we will dwell on the negative or what may be untrue from those around us. 

 

So, today – I want us all to challenge ourselves to remember to do the things in the quote at the beginning of this blog.

Remember TRUTH!  Remember…

YOU are always enough.

YOU are worth it.

YOU are valued!!

Don’t eat that!!! Is it REALLY about self-control?

You hear it everywhere – have more self-control!!
Well…this struggle of self-control plagued me for in the area of FOOD.  I feel I am living in a more balanced state now, but for YEARS I was “all or nothing” with my eating habits.  I would do great, feel focused, “control” my eating, and then an emotional stressor would hit, and it was all down the drain.
Everything I knew about healthy eating and what I should eat was thrown out the window.  When those stressful times would hit, it’s like there was no stopping – watch out – I was about to go 100% the other way – full out binge!
YES? Been there?  Can you relate? 
 
I struggled, tried new things, would get going on another diet, try again, etc.  It wasn’t until I acknowledged there was something much deeper going on with all of this, did I finally find the freedom I needed.
SADLY I WATCH AS MOST OTHER WOMEN DO THE SAME THINGS….
It is bondage and a never ending cycle!
This is a large reason that I started P31 Fitness, because I knew there had to be other women out there like me.  I wanted to help them, share with them, and show them that there is another way to handle food, than being so EXTREME all the time with their health. That there had to be more than “self-control” and maybe it had to do with “God-control”. 
There is a VERY important verse that ties all of this together.
Listen to these words from the bible – Colossians 2: 20-23
 20 Since you died with Christ to the elemental spiritual forces of this world, why, as though you still belonged to the world, do you submit to its rules: 21 “Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!”? 22 
These rules, which have to do with things that are all destined to perish with use, are based on merely human commands and teachings.23 Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence.”
HMMMMM..could this relate to diet rules you have put on yourself?
Could this be what we have done in the past?
Did you hear what it said…those rules have an appearance of wisdom…and yet not have any value in helping us to restrain when we need to?
So…what is the answer?
 
The bible goes onto say in Colossians 3:1-2:
“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”
 
THERE IT IS!!!
It’s a matter of our HEARTS!!
It is a matter of our MINDS!
Where is our FOCUS?
The more we focus on what we can’t eat, the more we want it.
The more we focus on having to eat this or that – the more we fail.
The more we focus on ourselves, the more we want to binge.
However, the more we focus on HIM – the more FREEDOM we will find in this area of food!! 
We are called to live BALANCED lives, and the only way I feel this can be done is through taking an honest look at our habits, personalities, struggles, and truly working to make some changes.
Most of all releasing control to Him instead of relying on ourselves.   
It’s not easy to work through this process, but it can be done. 
I have a LONG history to prove that God can help us all through these struggles, and we can come out free on the other side – not PERFECT – but free!   
 
Next time you are tempted to go on a crazy restrictive diet – RUN AWAY!
You will be much healthier in the long run by living in balance with food
and not “all or nothing”.   
TAKE THE EXTRA TIME TO DO THIS – YOU ARE WORTH IT!
