There are times in our life that doing the right thing isn’t always easy. Times that we would rather go the “easy” route and not do as God asks.
Times that we are tired, times that want to give up, times that we just struggle with continuing to try to do what is right.
An example I was thinking about was in the bible when God tells us to “Cling to what is GOOD”.
That’s a tough one!
There are days that I wish I had better thoughts than I do.
Days when I wish I acted differently.
Days that I just don’t seem to be WHO I want to be!
Days that I let negativity creep in.
OR….what about when God tells us to “honoring others above ourselves”….this can be a tough one sometimes.
Especially when we get hurt, or don’t feel like it, or don’t feel someone else “deserves” it in our mind. Been there? It is like a recent devotional we had in P31 Fitness about “appreciating” others in our lives.
But…I love knowing that each day is another opportunity to learn and grow! I love knowing God’s grace on me is helping me through every moment!
There is a passage in Romans that really teaches us a lot about how we can be sincere in our relationships with others, and how we can be different than the world. I challenge us all to break down each phrase. When I am reading, I personally pray that God will help me to change areas of my life where this doesn’t match what He is asking me to do/or how to be!
Questions I ask myself when I read this verse below in orange:
- Am I always clinging to what is good?
- Am I honoring others above myself?
- What about my zeal for the Lord and for what I get to do each day?
- Am I patient and joyful?
- Am I faithful in prayer?
- Not always, and yet always thankful for God’s grace and patience with me every moment of every day!
So, as we walk through this thing called life, I just wanted to encourage us all in how we talk to ourselves, our dealings with our family, our coworkers, and all others in general to really think about these words and that we work to have sincere love in all we do.
Here is the verse that I was reading and referring to above. I pray blesses and challenges you as it has me. – Romans 12:9-12:
9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. 11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. 12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
