There is so much FREEDOM when we finally realize two things:
- We will never be good enough for some people
- We can’t control what other people feel or think about us
As obvious as these two things may seem to many of you reading this post, these truths rang very true in my life over the past few weeks. You see, I am very much a person that wants others to be happy. I want for other people to have the best of the best, and if it is in my power, I try to make that happen. Although that can be a very positive thing, it has actually turned negative in my life.
I was SO concerned about making them happy or pleasing them, that it started to consume me!
Have you ever been there?
Have you ever cared so much about what others thought of you that you made yourself crazy?
Have you ever tried so hard to be “good enough” for someone that it just about drove you to do some pretty far-fetched things?
So last week, I realized…ENOUGH!! That is a form of bondage I don’t want to have. I said out loud to myself – “It is OKAY that I will never be good enough for certain people.” Just saying it gave me this release that I needed.
Then, I heard our devotional in P31 Fitness about “All about Him” and was given even more confirmation to my statement. It is all about what God thinks of us. If we will spend our time and energy focusing on this “audience of ONE” and less time worried about pleasing this person or that person, etc – then it will bring so much more peace in our lives.
Now, please know that I am not saying we shouldn’t care about others feelings or if we hurt them. I am simply saying that there are some people that we will never please and never be good enough for. There will always be some people that pick us apart. There will always be some people that think we should be different, better, etc. THOSE are the things we have to release and turn our focus upwards. Turning our eyes toward HIM and putting our focus on being more Christ-like every day will lead to peace and freedom.
I hope these words serve to bless you today and possibly help you if you struggle with this very thing as I do. Let’s live for the Audience of One today.
